Dr Soma Subramaniam is a Senior Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist (ENT Specialist) dedicated to breaking the cycle of endless appointments and temporary fixes. Recognised as a key opinion leader in Rhinology and ENT within Southeast Asia, Dr Soma divides his practice between resolving complex tertiary-level cases and providing attentive, everyday ENT care.
His philosophy is built on a unique, hybrid medical foundation. After graduating with Honours from the National University of Ireland and completing a rigorous six-year National ENT Training Program in Singapore, he pursued a highly specialised clinical fellowship under the Health Manpower Development Plan. Training at The Ohio State University (USA) under ENT and neurosurgical pioneers in endoscopic skull base surgery, sinus and allergy, he mastered techniques that prioritise patient comfort and aesthetic preservation.

Undergraduate & Postgraduate Training
Dr Soma received his medical degree from the National University of Ireland in 2002, graduating with Honours. He subsequently completed his ENT Specialist training in Singapore via the National ENT Training Program.
During this time, he spent six years rotating across all the public hospitals in Singapore, gaining wide-ranging experience training under many surgeons and teachers. He was awarded the MRCS (Glasgow), DOHNS (England), MMED (Singapore) and FRCS ORL (England) in 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2013, respectively.
Fellowship & Sub-Specialty Training
In 2016, Dr Soma was awarded the HMDP Scholarship under the Ministry of Health, Singapore to pursue a 1-year Clinical Fellowship in one of the Top 3 ENT Centres in the USA.
He underwent subspecialty training in Advanced Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at The Ohio State University under the tutelage of world-renowned Professor Ricardo Carrau, the leading pioneer in developing advanced endoscopic surgical techniques for the treatment of complex sinus and skull base diseases.
With the valuable hands-on experience he gained during his residency and fellowship, Dr Soma is one of a very few ENT specialists in the region with the skills and knowledge to treat complex ENT-related allergy, sinus and skull base diseases.
Training The Next Generation Of ENT Specialists
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Soma plays an active role in medical education, dedicating his time to nurturing the next generation of doctors and specialists. His key academic contributions include:
- Residency Leadership: Served as the Associate Program Director of the NUHS Otolaryngology Residency Program (2014–2020), directly guiding residents pursuing a career in ENT.
- Academic Appointments: Appointed Undergraduate Director for ENT at NTFGH and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2019. He develops teaching curricula, conducts clinical lectures, and serves as an examiner for the NUS medical faculty.
- Teaching Awards: During his tenure as Undergraduate Director, the department received the NUS Clinical Training Merit Award (2020) and the Clinical Training Excellence Award (2021). Individually, Dr. Soma was honoured with the NUHS Teaching Excellence Award in 2022.
- Global Thought Leadership: Frequently invited as a teaching faculty member at national and international ENT conferences, delivering over 100 lectures. He has also authored multiple chapters in major medical textbooks and published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.

In addition, he has spent time and effort engaging the regional ENT community across ASEAN, where he is the founding President of the ASEAN Rhinologic Society. Through this endeavour, help of his colleagues across the region, a unifying platform was created to facilitate greater cooperation and collaboration in ENT education and training.
